The great part about affirmations is that, even though you don’t fully agree that it is a part of you, there is still power in affirming the saying and for a second, it is a part of you. I am by no means courageous, but I am outspoken when it comes to myself, my feelings, and personal boundaries. I am not the type to raise their hand in class or offer the first answer. I am not the type to confront a stranger. I am not the type to even say hello to a stranger unless I know I’m in a safe place. But there are other ways to be courageous, to act and face fears. And they’re just as, or even more, important. Be courageous within yourself. Act and face your fears within yourself.
Our minds are our worst critic. I am still learning to quiet the negative thoughts, face them, and act on them. I am still learning to be courageous within by standing up to the negative self-talk and defend myself. It’s been difficult and if you asked me how I did it, I honestly would not have an answer to that besides taking my anxiety medication. Even since I’ve been on Zoloft, I no longer have the same anxious symptoms. It truly has been a little miracle. I’ve finally been able to think clearly, not obsess, and not have as many negative thoughts. There will never be zero negative thoughts but it’s how you manage them that matters. Be courageous and don’t let the negative thoughts burden your day. Stand up to the negative thoughts as being ridiculous and things that would never happen.
There is power in simply saying, “no” to the negative thoughts. A book by Miki Agrawal titled Disrupt-Her is a great read on how to “be the gatekeeper of your mind,” by stopping the negative thoughts and fighting them off. It is possible.
Be courageous. Face your fears and act on them.
