I am SO excited to be part of the team that is making this possible. You all know how strong of an advocate I am for mental health – heck, that’s what this entire blog is. I am finally able to be part of doing something with my interest in mental health, something almost tangible.
I was able to connect with someone over the Facebook group that I help moderate, SoCal Asian Connection (“SAC”). Through SAC, I came in contact with a member that recently completed law school and was recently appointed director of a non-profit mental health clinic. As I am currently working in the legal field, this piqued my interest. I reached out to her regarding volunteering or being involved with her clinic and – perfect timing – her clinic was working on spearheading a committee to bring mental health awareness to the legal field. Of course, I was all in. We have so many exciting things in store and it finally feels like I’m excited about something. I am planning to be a co-facilitator at the peer support groups (after the required trainings are complete) and I hope to stick with this committee for as long as possible.
I normally don’t bear much weight in horoscopes, but my horoscope (from several different sources) recently has been saying that my true purpose and passion in life is being a supporter for my loved ones and helping/watching them grow. With the official launch of our peer support group and how excited I am to be a part of it, this horoscope seems very applicable.
I never liked having the spotlight on me, I always enjoyed being in the background rather than leading or making decisions. While I don’t completely believe in astrology, this aspect of my horoscope resonates strongly with me and makes me believe I am going in the right direction towards that alleged purpose. It almost makes me believe that there is faith in my future – but I know that I want to do things big. I won’t be happy just doing these support groups for the rest of my life. I won’t be happy until we’re helping millions, rather than tens or hundreds, and changing the stigma against mental health. I want to make an impact, even as a support system. I didn’t endure all of the trauma in my life for nothing. I will be coming back bigger, better, and I will be a force to be reckoned with.
If you are interested in joining in this peer support group, you can register at the EventBrite link here: Legal Professionals Peer Support Group. It is FREE and online, so you can join from anywhere, at no cost to you. While we are focusing on the legal industry, many of the topics we will be discussing and resources we will be sharing are applicable to anyone and everyone, no matter the industry.
Participation is not mandatory, so if you’re feeling a bit shy, or think you don’t have anything to contribute – just listen in. I’m sure you’ll still learn something and/or you’ll still feel supported by the group. Even if you don’t think this group applies to you, please share it so that it can reach others who do need this group.
