Just tell your fiancé the truth, Nathan. ‘Cause she doesn’t want your pity or your protection. What she wants is your respect.
Grey’s Anatomy, Maggie Pierce, Season 14, Episode 1.
Say it louder for the people in the back, girl! So many people hide the truth from people/their partners in an effort to “protect them” or “not hurt their feelings.” We don’t need your protection, we need respect. The respect that we’re adults and can handle the truth. The respect to not treat us like little kids. The respect to treat us like equals.
We don’t need protection.
If you feel bad about something you did that you think may hurt your loved one, maybe you should’ve thought about not doing it beforehand. That’s not your partner’s problem, it’s yours, but you make it your partner’s problem by lying to them/hiding the truth. And every loved one deserves to get the respect and truth from someone they trust their life with. Guess where trust issues come from? Being lied to!
Stop making people have trust issues because you wanted to “protect them.” Honesty is the best policy. (Hypothetical) You think it’s better to not tell someone you cheated only for them to find out 15 years later, wasting their life with a cheater?
The truth always comes out. The faster it gets out, the less time we waste.
It’s such an insult to be lied to or hidden the truth from. It doesn’t benefit anyone.
